Vote NO on the Lakota School Levy 2011: All the reasons why and more

For my national readers, I know that all this Lakota information is distracting, but the situation at my school district is essentially the same trouble you are experiencing in your own districts no matter where in the country you reside. What bothers me at the Lakota School System is that the community is already providing an adequate budget, we are heavily taxed, yet we are told that it’s not enough. So that begs the question, why?

If you look at the Yes Lakota position this time around, you will see how they avoid the hard facts of why they put themselves in financial hardship to begin with. Instead they use community testimony and their Excellence record to somehow justify why they should have more money in the form of higher taxes. (See their website here)

http://www.lakotalevy2011.com/

And that’s the trouble; their entire position is built on emotion, not rational decisions. They are in financial trouble because of union radicalism, most notably the strike attempt of 2008, and as an organization they are seeking to cover up that behavior with pictures of children and emotional testimony declaring that Lakota must move forward instead of going backwards.

Personally, I have fought wrongs of this kind before. I write books about it, and fight against misleading information even within my own family. I have taught my kids not to put up with it either, so when a giant labor organization has embedded itself into my community and tries to play the smoke and mirrors game, I am obliged to confront them which is why I’m even involved in an education issue. The excessive costs associated with education are a result of radicalism from the labor force, and a lack of managements desire to confront that radicalism. Those two things do not dictate that the community bails them out for the trouble they brought themselves.

I would not care so much if the Lakota School System presented the levy request by saying, “We need more money to support a very large obligation that we have to the union labor contract.” That would be honest and I could then vote “NO,” but if the rest of the community voted, “YES” I could live with it. But instead, the YES people tell us that if we want to move forward then we’ll vote ourselves more taxes. That if we love our children, we’ll vote for a levy. That if we want to protect our property values, we’ll vote for the levy. They’ll tell us all that without dealing with the WHY. Well, the WHY is because radical union behavior at all levels of politics, through their lobby power at the state level, and their ability to strike at the local, have driven up the cost of education in many ways, and personally I see that the bed they have made for themselves is a problem based on a failed Keynesian economics model and is not my problem, until they ask me for something. And it’s not the problem of my school district either. It’s the problem of the people who did not educate themselves properly and instead resorted to radical behavior to force through financial ideas that are completely wrong. It is for that reason that Lakota believes that they need more money. It is because of a lack of will to deal with a radical labor force and when the cost per pupil is over $9,000 per student, those costs need to be reduced dramatically, and the only way to do that is to bring reality to the union labor force and let them carry the burden of their failed philosophy, not the rest of the community and certainly not the children we are trying to teach and raise.

So for your benefit, I will put here a link to most of the articles and videos I have written or produced over the 2010 to 2011 school year so you can see for yourself the kind of game that is being played against you. It is my intention to remove the radicals from the process of this whole financial discussion so that truly intelligent minds can solve these problems. And that will not happen by appeasing the radicals (union labor). By giving them more money, you just let them believe that their radical behavior works, and you’ve perpetuated the problem. So please enjoy the links below to articles from the past year, and learn the truth of what has been happening to our district.

I know it’s a lot, but if you really want to know, you will book mark this page and visit it a little bit at a time from now to the election so that you can make the most informed vote possible. Or you can do the easy thing and just “believe” the sweet words that the Pro Levy campaign is feeding you, and you’ll regret the decision years down the road, even if you’re one of those people who will move away from Lakota the minute your children grow up, it will still bounce around in your head for the ensuing decades, because you knew they were misleading you, but you didn’t have the courage to face it squarely.

The answer is always in the WHY. Why won’t the Lakota people admit to WHY they have a financial problem? The answer is because if the public knew, they wouldn’t support the financial requirements of that demand. So they hide their behavior behind your kids hoping that you won’t push the issue too far, and allow them to continue the radical union scam that has embedded itself in public education.

ENJOY!  This isn’t all of them, but a good sample of the last year.

  1. Mr. Hoffman, so sorry you inherited Cut N Run Mantia, who now has left TWO school districts for her family’s sake. FWIW, I’m convinced her family is the OEA, and I believe she was recruited specifically to come to Lakota and get the levy passed.

We just faced a similar situation in Pickerington, with all the same lies, smoke and mirrors, yet the morons who live here still buy into it. “It’s all for the kids.”

During the course of our anti-levy campaign:
–we had almost 100 signs stolen (and the police did nothing)
    — we had an alternative domain name stolen (while the leader of the VoteForPickKids.com circus smirked on TV “I did it because I could”)
    — due to a poll reassignment for a number of voters, we had numerous people going to the wrong polls to vote. I’m guessing they gave up and didn’t vote.
–The pro-levy crowd held unannounced town halls during the workday, inviting the media and the PEA teachers union members to make it appear there was no opposition and tons of support
–the pro-levy crowd held a rally (called a “townhall”) at EXACTLY the same time of our announced meeting the week before the election. At that meeting, they took questions submitted in writing, but not verbally.

We lost by 650 votes with more than 11,000 people voting on Aug 2. When will people learn?

  5. Mr. Hoffman,
I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you and the other Anti-Levy Boosters are doing!!!!!! i work for Lakota and have NEVER voted Yes on any of these levies of late….oh the ways of mispending I have seen and the stories I could share!!! How does one sign up to help??? I sure would love to…signs, phone calls, etc.

      • Is there any way you could make a post requesting folks who live in well trafficked areas to come and pick up signs from you? That way you don’t have to do all the leg work and one person at a time can pick up signs as needed? I would even be willing to drop them off at folks homes if that would work… Just need someone to keep a list…. just a thought.

Thanks for all you are doing to increase awareness and help us know what the truth really is.

  10. We need some vote no Lakota signs on Tylersville road…I have not seen even one. There were several all the way up Cin Day Road toward Monroe, but how can we get involved to help these last 2 weeks? Thanks much. PS. Thanks for the how to vote for the school board. I will be requesting a new absentee ballot as I made a “mistake”.

    • So, I rec’d a FB post from a teacher that Lakota rec’d “best in value” rating from the state… what does that mean? I am not sure, but it sure seems they are doing really well with what they have. Just think how well they could do if they used their money wisely? I too will be voting with a resounding NO. It’s not that we don’t like the schools we do… but many of us are financially sucking it up so that the government can spend more of our money. Gov Strickland took Lakota dollars… tax dollars that we ALREADY paid. It’s necessary for the schools to tighten their belts too. I don’t want to pay “double dip” taxation for schools when I actually already paid the state, but the Governer that I am sure NEA dollars went to support took our money away. This levy that will NEVER go away. This levy is for keeps.

  12. So much hate. As a Healthcare Professional and a parent, I am happy to vote YES for this levy. I will continue to work and help to support my kids (one with special needs) and their teachers. All of the negativity has gotten us nowhere. If your plan is so effective and you are the majority, why isn’t the problem fixed? Why don’t you use this energy to fix this at the state level instead of focusing on being as negative as you can? I hope that your goal is really to fix the problem. I doesn’t seem like that is the case. Eventually this will pass but even if it doesn’t, I will continue to support my children, just as someone supported yours!

    • First I love children, mine and yours. Lakota is a successful district because we have parents who value education and show that by the time and energy they put into educating their children on the “off” hours after schooI, doing endless homework, projects, parent support and encouragement to stick with the hard things and pursue education to hopefullyl pave the way for a college education.. I would just like to say that as a vote no supporter… it was not our side that were the haters. Our signs were taken, torn down, totally blocked by the numerous signs for the pro levy folks. I was disappointed to see that although this is an emotional issue that folks were lowering themselves to this. Even in war there are rules of engagement. The folks, whether students or parents or even teachers really showed what they were about. We were out numbered by more than 7:1 with funding/support and yet they still felt threatened. Why? Could it be that they realized their argument was faulty? Could it be they realized that their rationale was not logical? It does not help to continue to have the levy folks continue to state they will put the levy on the ballot yet again. Like somehow we are “Sam I Am”…. that we will just suddently say… OH I do like the levy, I do like the levy Lakota school board. We are well educated people whose only choice for a board/district out of control is to say. “No, we have a choice and this is it”. Listen, come back with what you are doing to help cut your costs in a GE Black belt/quality kind of way. Show us with facts what has been done. No lies either or skewed data like “our teachers didn’t take pay raisese when all teachers get a 3% pay each year whether we say so or not…Most military and average non state workers get small or no pay raise gaurenteed each year. Especially in this economy. Come to me with no emotion. Logical facts and a plan. Cut your budget like I have cut mine. Work smarter not harder like we do. Don’t support issues like issue 2 and then whine later when teachers jobs are cut. My mom always said you can’t have it all… and you certainly cannot have more of my hard earned money when you aren’t proving to me that you truly spend it wisely. Then and only then will I as a tax payor listen to these comments asking for more of my hard earned cash. These times are hard. It’s hard on us too. We all have to pay some way. These are hard decisions. No one makes these decisions lightly. Thanks for reading my book.

  13. Your efforts were wrongly focused against the levy, when they should have been supporting issue 2. Did you ever speak out in support of SB5?

Levies will be needed until legislation similar to SB 5 is upheld. I feel that the fight against the unions face a similar struggle to civil rights, women’s rights and gay marriage. The public opinion will eventually change with much effort. However, until that time, when property taxes were decreased in 2009, the district lost money. Enrollment has increased and state funding has decreased. Additional funding is now needed. Are you wanting to punish a whole generation of children waiting on public opinion to sway? Or can you spare a dinner out a month to support the future?

  14. @michelle, we tried to fix the problem at the state level with SB5. The unions pumped $30 million into a smear campaign of lies and deceipt to scare voters into repealing it.

The real fix will come when there are no more public unions. If levies are all about the kids, why doesn’t the union accept across-the board pay cuts or accept more responsibility for their health care costs and retirement?

Why don’t they volunteer to be coaches and club mentors (like when we were kids, when there were no teachers unions)?

The unions have radicalized teachers and parents into thinking they are the most important thing in this process, all the while disguising it as “for the kids.”

Personally, I don’t think I should have to “spare a dinner” so the teachers can get fatter. They already make an average of 40% more than we do. I think the teachers should make sacrifices and pay their “fair share” (as their union/liberal/communist/socialist friends like to say).

I ALREADY PAY MORE THAN MY FAIR SHARE. Not one more dime. The UNIONS ARE DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY!

  15. I personally believe you are all as radical as the Taliban and as anti American. I would never consider living in, near or allowing my children attend Lakota because of these types of element as on this site. You are all very ignorant and hopefully you are teaching your offspring Chinese since they will be bearing the slaves for the Chinese people in the future.

    • Funny that you should write. Someone the other day asked me if I was related to Anne Hoffman and that Anne was somehow involved with the Lakota School System. I said that I was not, and as I read what you have written here, I can see that you have no trace of my family in you. The Taliban? Are you serious! You are a brain-washed fool to believe such things. If you chose not to live in the district because we chose to not be pawns to a radical teachers union, then it’s your loss. And my offspring are well educated in most world cultures, but most in American culture. If you want to attend one of my classes sometime, I’ll slide you in, free of charge. My offspring have been trained not to be slaves to anyone, especially people like you who vote the way organized labor tells you to, instead of using your brain to reason through the situation.

      • Yeah, what he said.

This is EXACTLY the kind of mind-numbing idiots we have in Pukerington. Blithering idiots who have absolutely NO CLUE what’s going on in the schools outside of their little “let’s kiss the ass of the PTO” clubs and their offspring mindless pursuit of sports scholarships.

Lady, I recommend you turn off “The View” and stopping watching the Kardashians and subscribe to Glenn Beck’s GBTV for a dose of reality.

      • You know, that is the problem with these types, they watch shows like The View, and Ellen, and Oprah, and they somehow think they have some authority to dictate millions of dollars of budgets. Then they have the nerve to call me the Taliban? A terrorist! Hey, we’re not the ones who hold kids hostage, cut progams or go on strike just so we can drive up wages. We’re not the ones who will take away busing instead of asking the union to reduce their financial burden. We’re not the one who encourage the boycott of businesses because that business does not want to be impossed with tax increases. We are not the looters of an innocent childs life to fill the blank thoughts in our heads because we watch American Idol! You know the world is messed up when the good are the bad, and the bad run the world. It is clear that the real terrorists are those types as the writer above.

    • Well aren’t you a peach.
I bet you think you’re a woman of conviction. Too bad you’re so far down the rabbit hole and you have been lied to so often..tyranny to you is a new jewlery line on QVC!

I’m dumber for having read you’re comment. Thanks for that braniac.
Get back in the kitchen, we’ll take it from here.

  16. We’re not the ones standing outside the voting booth in an intimidating manner like the New Black Panthers that Eric Holder and Obama refuse to prosecute. We’re not the ones vandalizing election signs of our opposition- destroying someone else’s property.

You used the word “ignorant” in reference to those who regularly post on this site. I have met these ladies and gentlemen in person and nothing could be further from the truth. I looked into their eyes and saw that spark of intelligence that is so lacking in many government-educated children (and adults) these days. Their insight into history and current events is quite remarkable. We’re here because we have seen the corruption that is so prevalent in society today, and we choose not to turn a blind eye to it.

This goes back to a reply I posted here a few weeks ago about the “thinkers” versus the “feelers”. I think we know which side of the fence Anne falls.
